Best Online Not Oaxaca Mezcal Exploration Flight on Sale
Oaxaca produced 85 percent of all mezcal in 2017, while the lesser-known state of Durango produced less than 2 percent. This mezcal flight is for those looking to expand their mezcal journey beyond the state of Oaxaca. Each mezcal producing region has its own ecosystem with a unique set of endemic agave varieties.
Durango, is becoming a star region and undoubtedly people want to know more about the varieties found from this state. With plenty of sprawling arid land, and temperatures that fluctuate throughout the year, the terroir is fascinating.
San Luis Potosí was briefly the capital of Mexico. It’s one of the keepers of the oldest distillation processes– when Oaxaca wasn’t even in the picture. The traditional producers still commonly use Capacaha clay stills, a Mongolian style that has been used for generations.
Flight includes: Ultramundo Maguey Lamparillo Mezcal (750), Burrito Fiestero Joven Cenizo Mezcal (750), De Matachines Ahualulco Mezcal (750)
Ultramundo is produced exclusively with wild Lamparillo (A. Asperrima) from 24,000-acre Pelayo Ranch in Mapimí, Durango. Bright and fresh flavors of grapefruit zest and lemongrass make this an especially refreshing mezcal. Sustained minerality is present across the palate and finish. Drinks fantastic as a “Ranch Water” highball.
Burrito Fiestero Artesanal Cenizo is a well-rounded Mezcal with a smooth texture. Creamy mouthfeel and a taste of tropical fruit. Gentle on the smoke and well balanced. An expression to enjoy as your everyday sipper!
De Matachines Ahualulco is made with Agave salmiana crassispina from Manuelito de Jesus Oliva. Made in Ahualulco, San Luis Potosi. A dynamic and complex sipping experience. Notes of green pepper and bright citrus pop alongside hints of minerality and a savory note in the finish. Uniquely little smoke as the production methods in San Luis Potosi differ from those use in Oaxaca.
